ABC News has agreed to donate $15 million to a future museum run by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to settle a smear scandal.

Trump sued the network after anchor George Stephanopoulos claimed on Live that the real estate mogul-turned-politician allegedly preyed on advice columnist E.J. he was found responsible for the rape of Jean Carroll.

According to a settlement statement filed Sunday, ABC agreed to donate $10 million to the “Presidential Institute and Museum” established by Trump. The channel will also pay Trump's lawyers $1 million.

In addition to the payment, ABC posted an editorial on its website saying that the network and Stephanopoulos “have successfully secured President J.K. 

“We are pleased that the parties have reached an agreement to dismiss the case on appeal,” ABC said in a brief statement.

The legal dispute stems from an episode of ABC News' 'This Week' show that aired on March 10, 2024. In an interview with Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mays, Stephanopoulos said “A jury has found that Donald Trump is responsible responsible for rapeABC News has agreed to donate $15 million to a future museum funded by the U.S. government.
