Former president touts himself as a "peacemaker" while criticizing his successors and Ukraine's leader in a Miami speech.
Donald Trump, the former U.S. president, has been busy selling his version of history—one where he’s the hero who saved the world from World War III. Speaking at an event in Miami Beach hosted by Saudi Arabia’s Future Investment Initiative Institute, Trump claimed that if Kamala Harris had won the 2020 election, global war would’ve erupted within a year. He didn’t mince words. “You’re not so far away from it,” he told the crowd, his voice dripping with the kind of confidence only he can muster. “If we’d had this administration for another year, you’d be in World War III. Now? Not happening.” Trump Claims He Prevented World War III, Slams Biden and Zelensky
Trump’s speech was a mix of self-praise and thinly veiled jabs at his successors. He painted himself as the “peacemaker and unifier” the world desperately needed, pointing to his efforts in the Middle East and Ukraine as proof. According to him, the Biden administration’s handling of foreign policy has been a disaster. He argued that under his watch, the tensions in Ukraine would’ve never spiraled into armed conflict. “No profit in World War III,” he said, as if reminding the audience of something they’d forgotten.
Meanwhile, Biden’s farewell speech last month at the State Department struck a different tone. He spoke of rallying the world to defend Ukraine and avoiding war between nuclear powers. It was a stark contrast to Trump’s narrative, one where Biden’s team is painted as bumbling and inept. Trump didn’t hold back, calling out Kamala Harris and others for what he sees as gross incompetence.
The diplomatic dance between the U.S. and Russia has been anything but simple. Earlier this week, senior officials from both nations met in Saudi Arabia to discuss repairing relations—relations that have been strained under Biden. Trump praised Saudi Arabia’s role in facilitating the talks, calling them a success. He framed it as a continuation of his own efforts to tackle the Ukraine crisis. But not everyone was thrilled. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wasn’t happy about being left out of the negotiations. Trump didn’t seem to care. He called Zelensky a “dictator without elections” and accused him of draining American resources instead of seeking peace with Russia. “He better move fast,” Trump warned, “or he’s not going to have a country left.”
