Missile Debris Falls in Russia’s Lipetsk Region Amid Military Strikes |
Part of a missile landed in the Lipetsk Region in central Russia, local officials announced on Saturday. Nobody was injured, but property suffered some damage, the report added.
The Lipetsk Region administration announced on Telegram that the accident resulted from a Russian long-range strike of the military on Ukrainian defense industry and gas energy facilities, but did not offer any information. The Moscow Defense Ministry declined to comment.
"Electricity supply in part of the Yelets district was disrupted by the crash of an expended rocket stage," officials said. They further added that units of utility services have been dispatched to the location to repair the facilities.
On Saturday, the local press wrote that residents in one of the villages heard "a loud noise" and later complained about issues with electricity and water supply and mobile phone reception.
The Baza Telegram channel wrote that as many as 540 residences in six districts could have been affected.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Saturday morning that it had conducted a massed nighttime bombardment of targets assisting the Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian officials reported destruction in a number of regions, including to energy facilities in the Poltava Region and Kiev-controlled portions of the Zaporozhye Region. Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky described the attack as with missiles, drones, and bombs.
Lipetsk Region does not share a border with Ukraine but is flanked by Kursk Region, where Moscow forces are still fending off a Ukrainian attack.
Early in January, the interception of a Ukrainian S-200 missile was noted over Lipetsk Region. Russian Defense Ministry accused the air defense missile of having been modified by Ukrainian forces to strike ground targets. They reported that the missile was accordingly intercepted.
